  • Who is Heinz Fischer?

He became President of Austria on July 8, 2004, and was re-elected for a second and final term on April 25, 2010, before stepping down on July 8, 2016. Fischer previously held the positions of Minister of Science from 1983 to 1987 and President of the Austrian National Council from 1990 to 2002. He was a member of the Austrian Social Democratic Party (SP), which he suspended for the period of his presidency.
