How is AI impacting the job market?

Updated: Jun 5, 2023

Artificial intelligence has made significant advancements and is rapidly changing the way we work and perform our day-to-day activities. It has found its applications in various fields all across from healthcare and environment monitoring to the detection of frauds. It is regularly advancing itself with multiple skills and is continuously replicating human creativity.

Though AI has helped us achieve great things, it is also important to note the repercussions that it can have on the global market. AI facilitates automating repetitive tasks and enables new forms of decision-making that are transforming jobs in the market.

A report has predicted that AI will replace approximately 85 million jobs globally by the year 2025 and it was also mentioned in the same report that AI may also create 97 million new roles. From replacing jobs to generating new ones, the impact that AI will have on the job market can be considered complex and multifaceted.

But, the jobs that AI will create are different from the ones that it will be creating in the future. It is expected that the jobs AI will create will require a desired skill set to automate work in the future and traditional methods of performing tasks might not work anymore. These may be very small tasks such as data entry, data processing, and many more.

The jobs that AI is expected to create will be different from the ones which got obsolete over the course of time, as it is already automating the tasks that are required to be done on a repetitive basis which implies the fact that the people engaged in these jobs might lose their job in near future if they fail to upgrade their skills for automation.

Nonetheless, AI is less likely to have an impact on the jobs that require human intelligence skills which include problem-solving, empathy, and creativity in the coming future but as it evolves, these jobs might be impacted as well.

AI might take jobs which need skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and empathy to a completely new level that might create new opportunities for the market.

It is also essential to consider that AI is creating multiple new jobs and numerous opportunities as well as the repetitive tasks will be performed by AI, the human workforce will be able to be more concentrated on strategic and creative work and the areas which require emotional intelligence will be comparatively high in demand.

The jobs that are likely to have high demand include data analysis, software engineering, machine learning, any other technology-oriented skills. The other fields that might get a high demand in jobs are content creation, digital marketing, product designing, and other creative jobs as the companies want to engage customers in the market and make their place in the highly competitive market.

The future workforce will need to advance their skills to survive in the swiftly shifting market trends and to have a combination of technical skills in terms of both soft skills as well as technical skills which include programming, machine learning, and other technology-related skills whereas soft skills include emotional intelligence, creativity, and problem-solving skills for an individual to succeed in the market.
